New iPhone stumbles

I was carefully watching the launch of the new iPhone. Despite my concern with returning to AT&T (horrific customer service chased me away years ago), the new features on the iPhone looked very appealing.

Apple was clearly making a significant investment in marketing the new iPhone, and the media ... given the summer doldrums ... hooked onto the news hungrily.

Surely, I thought, Apple saw the huge demand coming and was fully prepared for it.

At the last moment, I decided to delay my purchase, concerned about a feeding frenzy at the store.

Apparently, that's exactly what happened. Customer demand was huge, and Apple got caught with it proverbial pants down.

Amazing. Either (1) Apple couldn't see this surge coming; or (2) Apple COULD see the surge coming, and decided not to upgrade/increase the amount of servers they had available.

Either way ... very concerning.
